This is a classic flatwater three-to-four day trip through gorgeous wilderness. A must do trip for every summer! Paddle, with the current, up to 50 miles past Raquette Falls, and float between sandy, wooded banks and through some of the most scenic areas of the Adirondacks.

Getting there

From the intersection of Route 30 and Route 3 in Tupper Lake, follow Route 30 toward Long Lake. When you come into Long Lake, look for the town beach on your left. You can put in here at the soft boat launch.

Paddling

Note that there is one portage during this trip, the carry at Raquette Falls.

You can enjoy swimming, fishing, birding, and camping along the way. The outlet of Stony Creek Ponds provides access to Upper Saranac Lake and routes north, or stick to the main route.

You'll have to launch at the Long Lake DEC boat launch right in downtown Long Lake. From there, paddle the length of Long Lake, where you'll find the Raquette River

This route is part of the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.

Camping

Long Lake’s eastern shore is dotted with tent sites and lean-tos off the Northville-Lake Placid Trail.
