Events & More
How is it that Labor Day Weekend is here already? Seriously, it seems like only yesterday it was Memorial Day and we were kicking off the summer season. But there is no sense wallowing and wondering where the time has gone - not when the upcoming weekend has so much fun to offer! So, I propose that we hold our heads up high and squeeze out every last drop of summer glory on this Labor Day Weekend!
Top 3 free events to check out this weekend:
Tupper Lake Art Show
The weekend's festivities will kick off early as the 43rd Annual Tupper Lake Art Show comes to life in its new home at the Tupper Lake Train Station. At 1pm on Thursday the gallery of local and regional works of art will open including everything from drawings, paintings, and photography, to sculpture, computer generated art, and even jewelry design. A "Meet the Artist" opening reception will take place from 5pm to 7pm. Art lovers are invited to meet the creators of the many different works on display while listening to live entertainment provided by George and Elizabeth Cordes as they perform piano and vocal selections.
The Art show will continue daily through Saturday, September 3 from 1pm to 8pm.
Tupper Lake Touch-A-Truck
The 2nd Annual Tupper Lake Touch-A-Truck will take place on Saturday, September 3 from 12pm to 4pm in the Municipal Park. Presented by the Tupper Lake Police Department in conjunction with the Tupper Lake Fire Department and Woodsmen of the World Insurance Agency, bring the kids (and the kid in you) to come check out 40 different trucks and pieces of heavy equipment. The event is designed to give children a hands-on opportunity to explore police cars, fire trucks, and heavy equipment and while to meet the people that operate them.
All that exploring is sure to make you hungry, so be sure to take advantage of the free hot dogs, hamburgers, and snacks the event organizers are serving up.
Community Fun Day Concert Lineup
Alongside the 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck, the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Community Fun Day in the Park. Music will begin at noon with a live performance from local musician Brock Gonyea. From there it will continue on with a great lineup of bands including: Spring Street Band at 1:30pm, Fade to Blues at 3:30pm, Third Shift at 5:30pm, and then the legendary Blind Owl Band at 7:30pm.
Whether you prefer to simply grab a cold beer and kick back and listen to the music on the shores of Raquette Pond, or get into the action of some of the fun games and activities available, Community Fun Day in the Park is sure to be a great way to enjoy the unofficial last weekend of summer!
Happy Labor Day!
As we all know, the cooler days of autumn are fast approaching. With that thought, we invite you to come and make the most of the rest of the warm days ahead! Spend your long weekend taking part in some events and festivities, visit a fun attraction, and maybe even cool off with a final swim or two of the season. However you choose to enjoy the final days of summer, keep your head high, because as you know, September is an awesome month to be in the Adirondacks!
- We wish you a safe & happy Labor Day Weekend!
