Question: What do you get when you combine awesome XC-skiing and snowshoeing on groomed Adirondack trails with delicious local craft beer?
Answer: The Tupper Lake Brew-Ski!
This is a mile-long brewfest held annually at the Tupper Lake Groomed XC Ski Center. For a small fee you can ski or snowshoe to stations set up with local craft beer samples from around the region. Fire pits are set up at each station for you to warm up and take a break with your beer and your friends. The trails are well groomed and beautifully maintained. We’ve been getting a lot of snow, so we’re really looking forward to this year’s event on February 24. While the trails are great by themselves, you'll definitely want to check out this list of beers that will be there from local breweries.
Local Brewery Line Up
Tupper Lake’s Raquette River Brewing will be pouring their Pale Ale and their Mango Wheat. The Mango Wheat is my personal favorite. I love wheat beers, and this one is light and delicious with the essence of mango. It seems like a summer beer, but it is delicious year round!
Big Tupper Brewing will be pouring their Piton Pale Ale, Touk (dark ale), and their IPA’eh’. The IPA’eh' is their flagship beer. BTB says, “Say it like a Frenchman, drink it like an Adirondacker!” This beer has a crisp flavor with a slight citrus finish that leaves you wanting more.
Malone’s Township 7 will be pouring their Deerfly IPA and their Vanilla Infused Porter. The Porter is brewed with Tahitian vanilla beans and aged on a mix of Madagascar and Tahitian vanilla beans soaked in bourbon, which sounds amazing to me.
Lake Placid’s Big Slide Brewery will be pouring their Leipzig Gose, which is a sour beer and another favorite of mine, as well as their Giant DIPA. The Giant DIPA was awarded a gold medal at the 2017 NY Craft Beer Competition as the #1 DIPA in New York State. It is a vigorously hopped strong American IPA, brewed with six pounds of flavor hops per barrel leaving it hoppy, but not overly bitter. If you like IPAs you’ll love it!
Big Slide Brewery and their sister brewery, The Lake Placid Pub & Brewery, will be pouring at the same table. The LP P&B will be pouring their flagship beer, Ubu Ale. Named after a chocolate lab that used to hang at the pub, this English-style Strong Ale is deep garnet red in color and features dark fruit and roasted malt flavors. It is delicious!
High Peaks Distribution will be there representing Livingoods from Peru, NY. They will be pouring Livingoods Vanilla Maple Porter. This is brewed with over 50 pounds of New York Grade A organic maple syrup and laced with pure vanilla and subtle hints of chocolate, sassafras, and coffee! They will also be pouring a Saranac beer that day as well. Valcour Brewing and Oval Brewery out of Plattsburgh, NY will also both be attending this year's event.
We hope you’ll come ski and sample with us this February! Get a cozy room and make a weekend getaway out of it. There’s plenty more to do here too!
