Cross-country skiing at the James C. Frenette Sr. Recreational Trails is a fantastic way to experience the winter beauty of Tupper Lake. The Winter Triad is the perfect introduction to winter hiking. Three family-friendly mountains provide a challenge in the winter, but one that is easily conquerable by the whole family! Pack your snowshoes and extra layers along with a headlamp as the days are much shorter. Whether you’re an avid hiker or a newcomer to winter trekking, finishing the triad brings a unique sense of connection to nature and the thrill of conquering the cold. Alpine skiing

Tupper Lake is the perfect place to make your basecamp and enjoy the ski areas around us. Only 45 minutes to Whiteface Mountain, less than an hour to Titus Mountain, and just over an hour to Gore Mountain, Tupper Lake is perfectly situated to enjoy multiple days of Adirondack downhill skiing. As a bonus, only 20 minutes away in Saranac Lake is Mt. Pisgah, a beginner hill that also has great tubing!

Winter events

Tupper Lake has some iconic winter events. From the Northern Challenge, one of the largest ice fishing derbies in New York state, to the annual BrewSki, a mile-long beer trail through the woods, winter is full of excitement. This year, the Northern Challenge takes place on Saturday, February 1st, 2025. Over $40,000 in cash and prizes will be given out along with 2 four wheelers! The BrewSki is happening on Saturday, February 22nd. Last year, 20 breweries poured their famous brews along the trails at the James C. Frenette Sr Recreational Trails. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for this year!
